New Hanover County Sheriff Edward J. McMahon is committed to being professional, responsible and accountable to the citizens of New Hanover County. Since McMahon was appointed in July 2009, the Public Information Unit has taken steps to improve communications with the citizens of New Hanover County.
The advancements include the use of Social Media. You can now follow the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office on the popular social media networking sites, such as Twitter, facebook, and with our News & Information Blog.
The services we have implemented have been outlined below. We understand all of these platform aren’t used by everyone so we’ve duplicated the information to a service that you may already be using. I encourage you to experience social media as we use it to offer better and more direct communications to our citizens.
News & Information Blog
Our News & Information Blog is our electronic news feed which is very similiar to news sites maintained by local television and newspaper organizations. News & Information from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office will be posted so that you may be an informed citizen. Our Blog also includes a photo gallery and video feed.
Nixle
Nixle is America’s Community Information Service. Nixel is a free service that allows you to receive trusted, up-to-the minute neighborhood information. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has implemented it’s use and post Crime Alerts, Advisories, Community Messages and Traffic Incidents that impact our county.
Twitter
Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that enables us to send messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters that are delivered to you, our followers. You may select these messages to be delivered through your Twitter account or SMS text messaging. NHSO initates this service to transmit real-time occurring events that is an immediate interest to our citizens.
